The Swedish Radiation Safety Authority has the task of being a driving force and providing expert competence within the national radiation protection preparedness. This includes preparedness, regulation, and permit assessment.

The Development Preparedness Unit is responsible for the development and direction of preparedness. The unit is particularly responsible for radiation protection in radiological emergencies by providing advice and recommendations to decision-makers. We now need to expand the unit with an investigator focused on development and collaboration in radiation protection issues.

Societal Important Tasks

You will belong to a group where you will work proactively with radiation protection and preparedness. You will contribute to developing the national capacity to decide on radiation protection measures in connection with radiological emergencies, such as nuclear power accidents and nuclear explosions.

We offer you a developing and exciting job where you will primarily work with:

  • analysis of radiation protection consequences
  • guidelines for preparedness planning in radiation protection
  • advice and recommendations to other authorities
  • knowledge and decision support regarding radiation protection measures

In your work, you will also have the opportunity to participate in both national and international development work.

You will collaborate with authorities and other organizations, such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and authorities in the Nordic countries with corresponding tasks as the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has:

  • a university degree or will graduate in the spring term of 2025 in a relevant scientific field
  • good knowledge of ionizing radiation
  • proficiency in Swedish and English, both spoken and written

It is advantageous if you have:

  • doctoral education in a field related to ionizing radiation
  • knowledge of and experience in radiation physics
  • experience in investigative work
  • experience in regulatory work or interpretation and implementation of regulatory requirements.

In the role of investigator, you need to be analytical and able to work in a structured manner. As a person, you should be proactive with the ability to lead yourself and take responsibility for your work. You should find it easy to work independently and also enjoy and be able to collaborate with others.

Employment Conditions

The position is a permanent employment starting by agreement. We usually apply a six-month probationary period.

The position is security classified, which means that a security screening with background check according to the Security Protection Act (2018:585) will be conducted before a decision on employment is made. Swedish citizenship is required for the position.

You will be part of the authority's crisis organization and may also be placed in a war position at the authority. The crisis organization performs radiation protection assessments and nuclear technical analyses and collaborates with other relevant actors to manage radiological emergencies, including situations of heightened preparedness. Within the framework of the crisis organization, you will be part of the operational preparedness that the authority maintains to support other actors in society with decision support.
